At the end of each year, I'm going to put together a journal entry of my
favorite illustrations and comics that I made throughout the year. What follows
are my highlights from 2017. I'm just starting out and only have four months to
pull from, so I'm not overly confident with my ability. Nonetheless, here they
are!
Friends
This is objectively a simple doodle, but something about it makes me love
it.
Podcasts
This is the comic I'm most proud of from 2017. It's sincere, and the feelings I
tried to convey still resonate with me. The podcast references are from my two
favorite podcasts, Roderick on the Line and Do By Friday.
Castle of Cagliostro Watercolor
This is one of the first watercolor paintings I ever did. My wife got me a
watercolor set for my birthday, and it's a real nice medium. Style-wise, this is
just a copy of Studio Ghibli. Castle of Cagliostro is one of my favorite
films.
Walkway
I forget if this came from reference, but I do remember this being one of the
doodles where I was exploring and trying to find my style. I'm still not good
with perspective, but this is an attempt at showing depth.
Yoga Comic
I think about this comic every time I see someone walk by with a yoga mat. I'm
not trying to throw shade toward yogis, but there's some grain of truth within
the irony I tried to capture in this comic.
Plane
A doodle without reference. Something about this one feels like I'm getting
close to finding my style for the time being. Plus planes are cool.
2001: A Space Odyssey Poster
I used a technical pen for this, and I quite like how it turned out. One of my
favorite films.
That's a Wrap
I've been working diligently at refining my style and growing as an illustrator
and comic artist. I've got a long way to go, but I'm proud of the art above.
It'll be pretty neat to look at my favorite pieces from each year as time
passes.
